PRINCETON — Police are investigating a simple assault that occurred early Sunday morning.

Sgt. Michael Cifelli, a department spokesman, said that a female victim contacted police at 12:17 a.m. Sunday to report that she had been the victim of an assault just after midnight.

Police said she was walking on Paul Robeson Place near the Princeton YMCA when a man grabbed her from behind.

“During the assault both the actor and the victim fell to the ground, and during the incident the victim continually screamed and fought with the actor,” he said in a release. “When a vehicle approached the scene, the actor fled the area on foot.”

The victim did not suffer any injuries during the struggle, Cifelli said.

Police said the suspect was described as a light-skinned male, possibly of Asian or Hispanic descent, about 5’10” tall with a stocky build and a “square-shaped face,” wearing a black t-shirt.

Anyone with information on the assault is asked to contact the Princeton Police Department at (609) 921-2100.
