TRENTON — A 37-year-old city man is in stable condition with a collapsed lung after he was stabbed multiple times in the neck and abdomen early this morning, police say.

Trenton police dispatched to the scene found the man bleeding on the steps to a residence along the first block of West Ingham Avenue around 5:30 a.m., Lt. Steve Varn said.

The stabbing is still under investigation, but police believe it could have stemmed from a personal dispute this morning, Varn said.

The victim and a 26-year-old female were leaving the residence this morning when a black male wearing all black and a black mask approached them, Varn said.

The three exchanged words and the female retreated into the residence and returned with a knife, which was taken from her during the altercation and used to stab the victim multiple times, Varn said. He declined to say what kind of knife it was.

The suspect then fled up West Ingham Avenue toward Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Varn said.

Anyone with information on the stabbing, should call police at (609) 989-4170, or the Confidential Tip Line at (609) 989-3663.
