Tonya Leonard (left) and her slain daughter, TamrahTRENTON -- The seventh and final person convicted in the 2009 drive-by killing of a 13-year-old girl who was an innocent bystander at a Trenton block party was sentenced today to 20 years in state prison.
Keith Warren, 25, was driving the car when his brother, Lamar Warren, opened fire on the crowd, killing Tamrah Leonard.
“From the bottom of my heart I am truly sorry for what happened,” Keith Warren said when given the opportunity to address the court. “I just want to take full responsibility for my actions.”
Leonard’s family was in attendance and expressed disappointment with the sentences that the seven men involved in her death have received.
“I hear the apologies and I think that they are pointless and meaningless to my family,” said Brian Leonard, the victim’s uncle.
All seven men convicted in the shooting are members of the Sex Money Murder Bloods gang. They planned the shooting at a block party on Martin Luther King Boulevard as retaliation against an attack by the Gangster Killer Bloods, prosecutors have said.
Superior Court Judge Mark Fleming followed the terms of a plea agreement that Warren reached with the prosecutor’s office in ordering the 20 year sentence. Keith Warren must serve at least 17 years before he is eligible for parole.
Lamar Warren was sentenced to 39 years in prison for his role in Leonard's slaying at a separate hearing last month.
Five other men with various roles in the shooting were sentenced earlier this month as well.
