TRENTON - Police are investigating after a man walked into a city emergency room with a gunshot wound to the leg tonight.
The victim may have been shot off Perry Street near Montgomery Street, on the banks of the Delaware & Raritan Canal, Lt. Tom Murphy said. The man, whose age was not immediately known, told police at the hospital he had been near the canal just before 7 p.m. when an unidentified suspect came out and allegedly started shooting at him.
Police said the victim escaped further injury at the shooting scene, and was able to make it to Capital Health Regional Medical Center. A police officer working outside the emergency room saw the victim walk inside and then called in the shooting, Murphy said.
The man's injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. Anyone with information on the case should call police at (609) 989-4170, or the Confidential Tip Line at (609) 989-3663.
