TRENTON — A South Carolina fugitive wanted on charges of criminal sexual contact with a minor was arrested in Trenton today, the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office said.
John Leona, 46, had a warrant out for his arrest for allegedly engaging in sexual intercourse with a girl under 11 years old in Walhalla, S.C., the office said.
Leona was arrested about 11:45 a.m. in the home of a family member on the 1000 block of Lyndale Avenue by the U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force and the sheriff’s office, the office said in a news release.
Leona is being held in the Mercer County Correction Center awaiting extradition to South Carolina, the office said.
Trenton police and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office assisted on the arrest.
