TRENTON — A robbery attempt in East Trenton left two brothers wounded by gunfire late yesterday morning, police said today.

One of the victims, a 24-year-old Morrisville, Pa., man, was shot twice in the groin and listed in fair condition at the hospital yesterday. His 27-year-old brother was more seriously injured. The Trenton resident was left with a shattered femur after being shot in the leg and underwent emergency surgery. He was in critical condition yesterday, but police expected him to survive.

The shooting happened just after 11:30 a.m. when the brothers were near the intersection of St. Joes Avenue and Girard Avenue, Lt. Mark Kieffer said. A masked man allegedly accosted them and tried to rob the two men at gunpoint.

The brothers struggled with the robber, and with several other suspects who arrived and joined in the fight.

Several shots were fired and the brothers were wounded, Kieffer said.

The suspects all fled, and police found the wounded men. An ambulance took them to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for treatment.

No property was taken during the robbery. Full descriptions of the suspects were not available.

Detectives are investigating. Anyone with information should call police at (609) 989-4170, or the Confidential Tip Line at (609) 989-3663.
