TRENTON — A city man was shot in the leg and stomach during a dispute with another man inside his home yesterday afternoon, police said.
The 48-year-old victim was rushed into emergency surgery at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton and listed in stable condition after he came out yesterday evening, according to police.
The shooting happened inside the victim’s home on the 400 block of West Hanover Street. The victim’s wife, adult son, and two young children were inside the home at the time, but none of them were injured, said Lt. Mark Kieffer, a police spokesman.
Police believe the dispute included an unsuccessful robbery attempt of the man inside the home, with a possible connection to drugs. There was no sign of forced entry at the house, Kieffer said.
At least two shots were fired in the robbery, one going into the victim’s stomach and the other into his right leg, according to police.
No arrests have been made in the shooting and no suspect descriptions were available late yesterday.
Police were on scene collecting evidence inside the house, where an attic window was missing and replaced with a black garbage bag and towels could be seen jammed in the frames of upstairs windows. Neighbors who came out onto their porches to see what police were doing on their snow-laden street said they had not heard any shooting.
While at the house, detectives spoke with and frisked the adult son outside the home before taking him back to police headquarters. The son has not been charged and was not placed under arrest.
After police arrived on scene, an ambulance took the victim to the hospital, Kieffer said. The victim was uncooperative during the brief time police were able to speak to him before surgery.
