Four men and an unidentified 16-year-old have been arrested during a series of investigations that began last fall, Lt. Brian Pesce said today.

BORDENTOWN TOWNSHIP — Bordentown police announced a string of drug busts today as part of an ongoing strategy to discourage drug distribution in the area.

Four men and an unidentified 16-year-old have been arrested during a series of investigations that began last fall, Lt. Brian Pesce said today.

Police identified today’s arrest of Michael Davis, a 32-year-old Bordentown City resident, as the most significant so far.

An investigation determined that Davis sold heroin to a 22-year-old township man that allegedly resulted in his death, police said. Davis faces charges of possession and distribution of heroin and is being held in Burlington County Jail on $100,000 bail.

“Township police will continue to take an aggressive approach to drug crimes in our community and are committed to thoroughly investigating drug overdose deaths and holding those accountable who sell the illegal narcotics,” Police Chief Frank Nucera Jr. said in a statement.

The other four arrests announced today were spread out over the last two months.

On Dec. 20, police stopped 24-year-old township resident Myron Pickett Jr. while he was traveling in a vehicle on Amboy Road and executed a search warrant following a two-month investigation that determined Pickett was dealing crack cocaine in the township, police said. Police said that they found 1.35 grams of crack cocaine in the vehicle and Pickett was charged with possession of cocaine and possession with intent to distribute.

On Jan. 31, police executed a narcotics search warrant at an Elm Avenue residence following a one-month investigation which determined that Quentin Nixon, 18, was selling marijuana from the home, police said. Police seized marijuana, a marijuana pipe and $101 cash and charged Nixon with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and possession with intent to distribute, officials said.

Then on Feb. 14, police joined the Burlington County Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Task Force to execute a search warrant at a Wellington Court residence following a one-month investigation which found that marijuana was being sold from the home, police said. Police seized 10½ ounces of marijuana, digital scales, marijuana pipes and $8,500 cash from the residence and arrested Shawn Carter, 22, and a 16-year-old who live at the home, officials said.

They each face various marijuana possession and distribution charges. Carter was sent to Burlington County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail and the juvenile was remanded to the Burlington County Juvenile Detention Center, police said.

Township police, who worked with the prosecutor’s office and the State Police, said the investigations were part of a broader effort to discourage drug dealers from operating in Bordentown.

“We want to send a message — if you deal drugs in Bordentown we’re going to come after you,” Pesce said.

Tips from residents played a part in determining who to investigate, he said, and the suspects arrested do not appear to have been working with each other.
