BURLINGTON CITY -- Drug busts targeting two houses and suspected street-level distribution locations in Burlington City last week led to the arrest of 16 people and the seizure of cocaine, money and a handgun, police said.

The joint operations between the Burlington City police and State Police started Friday with search warrants for two residences in the New Yorkshire neighborhood and resulted in six arrests.

At the first house on the 400 block of York Street, police seized "a large quantity" of crack cocaine, packaging materials, cash and a loaded 9-mm handgun previously reported stolen in North Carolina, police said.

Jerry Lee Hicks, 42, and Katrina Williams, 34, both of Burlington City, were arrested and charged with multiple drug distribution and weapons offenses. Bail was set for Hicks at $300,000 and for Williams at $225,000.

The second house targeted in the drug sweep on the 100 block of East Federal Street led to the seizure of additional crack cocaine and four more arrests.

Rhyman Hicks, 47, of Burlington City; Aaron Ritman, 39, of Burlington City; and Jamie Hans, 36, of Edgewater Park, each face multiple drug distribution charges. Bail was set for Hicks at $109,256, for Ritman at $65,000 and for Hans at $13,500.

Howard Young, 20, of Burlington City, was also charged with obstruction of justice and resisting arrest when he tried to forcibly enter the house while the search was ongoing, police said. He was released, but arrested a second time hours later on additional obstruction and resisting arrest charges when he ran from officers working on the street-level dealing portion of the drug sweep, police said.

The street-level sweep netted an additional 11 arrests in the area of New Yorkshire and the downtown neighborhoods, where police had received numerous complaints about drug dealing, police said.

Nathaniel James, 19, of Burlington City, was arrested on an outstanding warrant and marijuana distribution charges. His bail was set at $50,200. He is accused of having 15 bags of marijuana when he was taken into custody at the corner of East Federal and York streets.

The other 11 arrests primarily involved outstanding warrants for those taken into custody on street corners. The arrests include: Altariq Jenkins, 41, of Burlington City; Glenn Conyers Jr., 26, of Burlington City; Henry Pinkney, 51, of Burlington City; Jack Morton, 25, of Burlington City; Joseph Moyer-McEwen, 31, of Burlington City; Kayla Carucci, 24, of Edgewater Park; Michael Warren, 35, of Willingboro; Mark Shaw, 24, of Willingboro; and Itoka Fennell, 34, of Burlington City.

Agencies assisting in the second joint operation included the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department Fugitive Unit and the Maple Shade Police Department.
