TRENTON — City police are investigating the armed robberies of a Chinese restaurant and a grocery store Tuesday night, officials said.

Two men armed with black hand guns and cloaked in black masks and black hooded sweatshirts entered He Yuan Chinese food store on the 1200 block of Hamilton Avenue about 9 p.m. Tuesday and stole about $600, Lt. Mark Kieffer said.

After barging into the store, one man pointed his gun at the victims, while the other went behind the counter and grabbed the money from the register, Kieffer said.

Both men soon fled the store.

About an hour later, two armed men entered Mena’s Grocery on the 800 block of Beatty Street, Kieffer said.

One man, who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt with the printed word “crooks” over the left part of his chest, was holding a dark-colored semiautomatic handgun, Kieffer said.

The other man was holding an unknown type of handgun, he said.

One man grabbed a store employee, while the other went behind the counter and demanded that they open the cash register, Kieffer said.

The men took about $900 from the store and fled, he said.

No one was injured in either incident and police are investigating the possibility that these robberies are related.

The two stores are more than a mile apart.

Detective Brian Wyszynski is investigating the Hamilton Avenue robbery and Detective Edward Cunningham is investigating the Beatty Street case.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call police at (609) 989-4170, or the Confidential Tip Line at (609) 989-3663.
