TRENTON — Two people were shot during a fight that broke out inside a Wilbur section home early yesterday, police said.

Both men were expected to survive, according to police.

Officers responded to the shooting on the 100 block of South Cook Avenue just after 1:45 a.m. There, they found a 21-year-old man and 36-year-old man shot inside their home. Police believe the two wounded men let the shooter inside earlier, along with six others who they ended up fighting with.

“Apparently a number of individuals went to the victims’ residence,” Lt. Steve Varn said. “During that time, a fight broke out between the individuals and the occupants of the residence.”

One of the men let inside allegedly pulled out a handgun and started shooting, striking the two men. The shooter fled. No one else was injured, no arrests have been made, and a full description of the shooter was not available.

Since early Saturday, five people were shot in the city, according to police.

The first shooting happened about 1 a.m. Saturday near the apartment complexes on Rogers and Clearfield avenues off Route 29. A 19-year-old man was walking when he heard multiple shots and realized he was struck, Varn said.

Police received a call that shots had been fired, but officers who went to the area could not find any victims. The man who was shot showed up at Capital Health Regional Medical Center 40 minutes later, police said. He was expected to survive his injuries.

On Saturday evening, a 32-year-old man walking through Cadwalader Park near the tennis courts was shot in the abdomen after he was robbed, police said.

The suspect fled through the park. He was described as a black male, 23 years old, dark-skinned, 5-foot-8, medium build and wearing a dark sweat shirt. Police said the victim was rushed to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he had emergency surgery. He was listed in critical but stable condition but expected to survive.

Police also responded to a Sunday night shooting on the first block of Garfield Avenue.

Officers sent there shortly before 11 p.m. found a 21-year-old on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound in the buttocks, Varn said. There was no description of a suspect. The victim was expected.
