MONROE — A man wanted in connection with stealing a vehicle and assaulting a Florence police officer is now being sought for leading a Monroe officer on a high-speed chase yesterday, police said.

About 9 a.m., police said a Monroe officer spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen.

After confirming that the car had been stolen and that the suspect in the auto theft, 23-year-old Justin Miller, was also wanted for assaulting a Florence police officer, the Monroe officer attempted to stop the vehicle, police said. The driver then sped away, police said.

The officer quickly called off the chase because of high speed and poor weather conditions, police said.

A short time later, police said the vehicle was found unoccupied in Manalapan.

After a search involving several police departments, the man could not be found, police said.

Police said Miller is described as 5 feet 7 inches tall with blonde hair and a thin beard.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Monroe Township Police Department at (732) 521-0222.
