Police were able to get a description of the alleged shooter, and they returned to the North Trenton area of the earlier shooting, where they found the suspect and arrested him
TRENTON – A gang member who shot a 24-year-old man early Sunday was arrested shortly after the incident, police said.
Van Rayshawn Wells, 25, of Trenton was charged with attempted murder and weapons offenses following the shooting on Sanford Street, Lt. Steve Varn said.
The victim, a city resident, was on Sanford approaching the Brunswick Avenue intersection when shots were fired and he was hit in the back, Varn said.
The wounded man was in critical but stable condition yesterday, police said.
Officers sent to the area at around 1:15 a.m. on a report of shots fired found no one there, as the victim had been taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center by an acquaintance.
Police were able to get a description of the alleged shooter and returned to the Sanford Street area, where they found and arrested Wells.
Wells is a Bloods gang member who was shot twice in separate incidents in 2011, police said at the time. He was shot during a large melee at the Prospect Village housing complex in June 2011 and then in August in the area of North Clinton and Dewey Avenue, police said.
