Eloy Sanchez, 27, was arrested this afternoon after allegedly walking away from Jones Farm in Ewing on Sunday.
HAMILTON — An inmate who walked away from a minimum-security state prison farm in Ewing on Sunday was caught today in Hamilton, the state Department of Corrections said.
Eloy Sanchez, 27, was arrested at 3:45 p.m., said Deidre Fedkenheuer, a spokeswoman for the corrections department. He was in the custody of the agency's Special Investigations Division this afternoon and being taken to the state prison in Trenton.
Sanchez was serving a sentence of one year and three days for robbery at Jones Farm in Ewing. He had a parole hearing scheduled for October, but the hearing will be cancelled and he could now face an additional three to five additional years in prison because of the alleged escape.
Sanchez's robbery charge did not involve a weapon, so he was considered a "full minimum" prisoner after he began serving his sentence on Jan. 30. Jones Farm is a working dairy farm run by the corrections department on Bear Tavern Road.
Sometime Sunday, Sanchez walked away from the farm, and he was declared an escapee after he did not report for a 6:30 p.m. check, officials said.
The exact location where Sanchez was found was not released.
