The charges were upgraded to include murder after an autopsy today found Ronald Grossman died from blunt force trauma
MONROE — A township man beat his father to death inside their home, then tried to stymie the police investigation into the homicide, the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office said today.
Forcing their way in with a search warrant, police late Tuesday found 65-year-old Ronald Grossman’s body inside the home he shared with his son on South Rhoda Street.
Grossman was pronounced dead at 1:02 a.m., authorities said.
His son Andrew Grossman, 37, was charged with tampering with evidence and hindering an investigation within hours of the pronouncement. But the charges were upgraded to include murder after an autopsy today found Ronald Grossman died from blunt force trauma that resulted in injuries to his head, back and neck, the prosecutor’s office said.
No motive was released, and officials did not specify how the younger Grossman endeavored to cover up the death of his father.
Police were first notified something was awry when a friend of Ronald Grossman’s called and said he was concerned. The friend had not been able to contact the elder Grossman for some time, and ended up filing a missing persons report.
Police made several stops at the Grossman residence and were unsatisfied with the outcome. They went to a judge and got the warrant to make a full search of the house.
Andrew Grossman’s bail was set at $1 million by Superior Court Judge Michael A. Toto.
The investigation into the killing is ongoing, the prosecutor’s office said. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Monroe Detective Keith Saloom at (732) 521-0222, or prosecutor’s office Investigator Michael Daniewicz at (732) 745-4018.
