HAMILTON — Police arrested a township employee today on charges of stealing funds from the recreation department, township officials said.

Coleen Sides, who resigned immediately upon being charged, allegedly took funds designated for the rental of township facilities, officials said.

Officials said Sides had been employed by the township since 2004, first working as a health aide in the Division of Health before being transferred to the Division of Recreation, where she scheduled and processed events being held at Sayen House.

Sides was investigated for several weeks by police before the arrest was made, Hamilton Mayor Kelly Yeade said.

“When I became mayor a few months ago, I said that all employees of Hamilton Township would be held accountable for their actions and that any betrayal of the public trust would not be tolerated,” Yeade said in a news release. “Unfortunately, some individuals choose to do the wrong thing even when the consequences are severe and made clear.”

Yeade said the case will likely be handled by the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
