TRENTON – Violence roiled across the capital city today, leaving two men in critical condition and three others wounded in two separate shootings, police said. A late morning shooting left a man clinging to life while a shooting this afternoon left four people wounded – one critically – at dusk in the West Ward, police said.

A man, whose age was not available, was deposited at Capital Health Regional Medical Center around 11:30 a.m. by a motorist who did not stay around to tell police what happened, Lt. Steve Varn said. Shot twice in the abdomen, the victim was unable to speak and remains unconscious.

Police believe the man was shot near the intersection of Liberty Street and Revere Avenue in the Villa Park section of the city, but the exact location of the crime remains unclear.

Later in the day, four victims were standing on the 200 block of Spring Street around 4:45 p.m. when numerous gunshots were fired, seriously injuring one person and wounding the three others, Varn said.

Police have not determined a motive in the shooting, but said it was possible the crime was retaliation for the shooting death of 17-year-old Joshua Moore on Pennington Avenue Monday night.

Moore was slain Monday night following a high-speed chase down Reservoir Street by suspects who shot at his van, police said. No arrests have been made, and no suspect descriptions were available in the case.

“Obviously that is something that we’re looking into,” Varn said.

Over a dozen white foam cups dotted the intersection of Calhoun Street and Spring afterward, marking shell casings. Police could not immediately identify a number of gunmen or whether there was an exchange of gunfire.

One man was in critical condition after being shot multiple times, including in the chest, police said.

Police said the three other victims’ wounds appear to be less serious.

All these crimes are under investigation. Anyone with information should call police at (609) 989-4170, or the Confidential Tip Line at (609) 989-3663.
