TRENTON — Three men were stabbed and cut by a butterfly knife-wielding assailant after all were kicked out of a city bar when a beer bottle was smashed over another man’s head early Monday, police said.
The disturbance began inside Antigua Bar on the 600 block of Whitaker Avenue around 12:20 a.m., according to police. A 29-year-old man was hit over the head with a bottle, leaving a minor injury.
Police were called, and while they were on their way security guards grabbed several people inside the bar and began escorting them outside. When the patrons were just outside the front door of the bar, the 30-year-old suspect known as “Cesar,” allegedly attacked three men.
Drawing his butterfly blade, “Cesar” allegedly stabbed a 27-year-old man in the abdomen, sliced a 30-year-old man on the arm, and cut a 20-year-old on his left side.
The suspect ran off immediately after the assault, and officers arrived to find the three men bleeding outside the bar, yelling in Spanish, with no assailant in sight, according to police. A butterfly knife features a handle that divides to enclose the blade when not in use.
It’s unclear what provoked the suspect, but police do not believe he was the one who struck the man with the beer bottle.
The victims, all of them city residents, were expected to survive. The 27-year-old stabbed in the abdomen suffered the most serious wound, but he was in stable condition at Capital Health Regional Medical Center yesterday, Lt. Mark Kieffer said.
No arrests have been made in the attack. The suspect believed to be named “Cesar” is described as a Hispanic male, 30 years old, wearing a black leather jacket, blue jeans and a turquoise shirt.
