HIGHTSTOWN — A Hightstown man will make his initial appearance in federal court this afternoon on charges he had child pornography and sent sexually explicit emails to a 14-year-old girl in Ecuador.
Fredy Arbito, 31, was arrested by local authorities in Panama and was returned to the U.S. in April to face the charges. He has been in the custody of the Department of Homeland Security since his return,
Arbito was charged with one count of possession of child pornography.
Prosecutors in the U.S. Attorney's Office said in January Arbito had at least three images of child porn on his computer. Sexually explicit emails sent to a 14-year-old girl in Ecuador were traced back to Arbito’s Hightstown address, they said.
If convicted Arbito could face a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
