MANCHESTER — A 76-year-old man was found murdered in his trailer Monday evening, the Ocean County Prosecutor's office said today.
Friends became suspicious after Anthony Verdicchio did not show up for a daily morning coffee get-together, prosecutor’s office spokesman Al Della Fave said.
“Verdicchio and others would each day meet for coffee and his friend found it unusual that he missed that morning’s meeting without letting anyone know why,” Della Fave said.
The friends went to Verdicchio's trailer in the Pine Acres Estate in Manchester and found him unresponsive around 5:19 p.m. Authorities pronounced him dead shortly thereafter.
Verdicchio was last seen at church on Sunday, Della Fave said.
Della Fave said the incident is being treated as a homicide because of the condition of the body. He declined to say whether the body had signs of trauma and whether there were signs of forced entry to the trailer.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Manchester Township police at (732) 657-2009.
