Zaire Jackson, 19, allegedly shot and killed a man near North Hermitage Avenue last April.
TRENTON -- A city man who allegedly shot and killed another man last year did so after they had fought at a cookout the day before, prosecutors said today.
Zaire Jackson, 19, allegedly chased 22-year-old Irvin Jackson into Moses Alley, off the 100 block of North Hermitage Avenue, and shot him multiple times in April 2012. The two men were not related.
Several people saw Zaire Jackson approach the victim and begin chasing him, Deputy First Assistant Prosecutor Kimberly Lacken said during his bail hearing today. One witness claims to have seen Zaire Jackson shoot Irvin Jackson once the two men were in the alley, Lacken said.
Defense attorney Jenna Casper said her client admits he fought with the victim the day before, but does not admit to killing him. She also took issue with the witness accounts.
“I understand that the eyewitnesses did not come forward until months later,” Casper said.
Judge Pedro Jimenez maintained Jackson’s bail at $500,000. Jackson is also being held in lieu of $120,000 bail on an unrelated robbery charge.
