Aaron Carter was shot multiple times as he attempted to flee police in June 2011.
TRENTON — A Hamilton man who was shot multiple times by a Trenton police officer after fleeing from a suspected drug deal in June 2011 was sentenced today to six years in prison.
Aaron Carter, 34, pleaded guilty earlier this year to weapons possession and intent to distributE PCP. His attorney Anne Cataline said in court today that while her client admits to the weapons possession, he does not admit to pointing a gun at the police.
“Mr. Carter was shot in the back, which is consistent with the fact that he was running from the officers,” Cataline said.
After encountering Carter on Martin Luther King Boulevard in what they believed to be a drug deal, detectives chased and caught him on Bond Street in Trenton, authorities said. When they began to handcuff him, he broke loose and ran away.
Carter then drew a loaded handgun and pointed it at one of the detectives, who drew his own weapon and shot Carter multiple times, police said.
