The teen was a passenger in a car being driven on the 100 block of Passaic Street around 12:15 a.m. when “numerous shots rang out,” Lt. Mark Kieffer said.
The driver sped to Rowan Towers on the 600 block of West State Street, where he knew police officers worked off-duty security. Officer James Mack radioed in the shooting and called for an ambulance, Kieffer said.
Tonight, the 19-year-old is in “extremely critical” condition at Capital Health Regional Medical Center. The driver was interviewed by police today. He was not injured in the shooting.
No suspect description or information about the number of shooters was immediately available. Detectives are investigating the wounding of the 19-year-old, who was the fifth person shot in Trenton in just over 24 hours.
All of those victims remain hospitalized in various condition with wounds that police believe are not life-threatening. While detectives continue to work the cases, a 27-year-old city man was arrested and charged with a shooting that wounded a man in the chest on Perry Street, Kieffer said.
Daniel Walker was charged with attempted murder and weapons offenses for the shooting Tuesday night that wounded a 24-year-old man. Information on the motive of the shooting is not immediately available, as the victim is on a ventilator and likely will not be able to be interviewed until tomorrow at the earliest.
