LAWRENCE — Police arrested a 35-year-old homeless woman who was apparently intoxicated when she pushed her way into a township home, knocked over a 61-year-old woman and assaulted her with a long shoehorn and a bat last week, police said.
Nadiah Jallad was charged with burglary, robbery, theft and four counts of weapons violations following the attack that left the 61-year-old Brunswick Avenue woman with small cuts to her hands.
Jallad and several other people were sitting on the front steps of the 61-year-old’s home just before 9:30 p.m. July 7 when the resident came out, told them to leave and went back inside her house. In response, Jallad got up and pounded the door until the resident opened it, Lt. Mark Ubry said.
“Jallad forced her way into the residence’s enclosed porch area,” Ubry said.
While inside, Jallad allegedly forced the resident to the ground, grabbed the shoehorn and umbrella and started hitting the victim in the upper body.
Ubry said Jallad also dented the front door “when she was swinging the weapons and hitting the homeowner.”
The resident’s husband was able to restrain Jallad and hold her until police arrived. The officers arrested Jallad and filed the charges.
Jallad’s bail was set at $80,000 with a 10 percent option, and she was taken to the Mercer County Correction Center when she could not pay.
Though force was used to get into the home, Ubry said police consider it a burglary and not a home invasion.
