TRENTON — A Trenton man who fled the city after police connected him to two June murders was brought back Tuesday after being caught in Connecticut in July, authorities said.

Alton Jones, 21, was allegedly involved in the fatal June 12 shooting of Rayshawn Ransom, 19, on Passaic Street in Trenton, and is allegedly responsible for killing Tiara Green, 19, at Rowan Towers three days later.

Detectives from the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office and the Trenton Police Department brought Jones back from Connecticut Tuesday and he was arraigned in Trenton Municipal Court on murder and weapons possession charges, said Casey DeBlasio, spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office.

As of today he was being held in a cell at the Trenton Police Department, and will remain in custody in lieu of $1.5 million bail until a bail reconsideration hearing later this month, DeBlasio said.

Jones is one of three men who allegedly shot at another group of men on Passaic Street on June 12. The other group, who included Ransom, were from West State Street and had previously been involved in a dispute with Jones’ group and had gone to Passaic to make peace, prosecutors have said.

Prosecutors said it appears that Jones fired the bullet that killed Ransom, but they are waiting for a ballistics report to confirm that. Two other men also shot at Ransom’s group: Marquise Skillman, Jones’ brother, and Dyquise Leonard.

Jones also allegedly killed Green, 19, on June 15 when he fired into a crowd of about 30 people behind Rowan Towers from 50 yards away, authorities said. Green was struck in the head and died, while two other people were shot, with one spending time in critical condition in a local hospital before his condition stabilized.

Jones was on the run for more than two weeks when he was tracked down by the U.S. Marshals NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force on July 9.

New Haven, Conn., authorities found Jones in a house in that city and staked it out. When Jones saw the authorities, he barricaded himself, along with other people who were there, inside the house and New Haven SWAT was called in to handle the situation, U.S. Marshals have said. Eventually, Jones gave himself up without further struggle, and was taken into custody in New Haven to await extradition, U.S. Marshals have said.
