TRENTON — A block party that drew more than 300 people before police shut it down Saturday night was held without proper permits, Mayor Tony Mack's administration said today.The Department of Recreation, Natural Resources and Culture found that the license used by event organizers was a modified copy of a permit issued for a birthday party at Jefferson Vincent Park on June 27, the city’s press office said in a news release.
No permit was issued for a block party or event in the park on Aug. 17, the release said.
City police and state troopers broke up the party on Monmouth Street and Walnut Avenue at around 11 p.m. Saturday and arrested one person for disorderly conduct, State Police Sgt. Brian Polite said Sunday.
City police arrested ten people on charges from failure to disperse to obstructing the administration of law, Lt. Mark Kieffer said today. Trenton officers who initially tried to disperse the party were pelted with rocks, bricks and bottles before calling for backup.
Polite said the response included personnel stationed in the city as part of the agency’s Targeted Integrated Deployment Effort, which has sent uniformed and plainclothes troopers into the city’s most most violent areas. Troopers based in Hamilton were also called into assist along with a Ewing police unit.
