Jafar Lewis’s fiancee said he had been involved in a dispute with the alleged shooter, who was engaged to a niece of Lewis’ mother, but she believed the dispute had been settled.
TRENTON — The alleged killer of up-and-coming city hip hop artist Jafar Lewis is in custody and being held on $1 million cash bail, police said today.
Wayne Bush, 35, turned himself in this morning to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, Trenton Police Lt. Mark Kieffer said.
Police said Bush gunned down Lewis the night of Aug. 23 on Middle Rose Street.
Lewis’s fiancee Twanna Robinson said last week that Lewis had been involved in a dispute with Bush, who was engaged to a niece of Lewis’ mother. She said she believed the dispute had been settled.
Lewis had walked out of his car and into gunfire from a shooter whose car was sitting next to his in the street, police said.
Bush is charged with murder and weapons offenses. He was taken to Trenton police headquarters shortly after turning himself in.
Family members and friends said Lewis was a hip-hop artist on the rise, dedicated to his music. Performing as “Young Farr,” Lewis had opened for French Montana at the Sun Bank Center in Trenton and for Rick Ross in Atlantic City, Robinson said.
His album “ForeverFARR” came out earlier this year.
