Ricky Dones allegedly picked up the “hard plastic brush broom” and used it to hit the victim on the left side of his face, police said.

LAWRENCE — A whack across the face with a “hard plastic brush broom” that knocked a man out of a forklift at a township factory Tuesday evening led officers to arrest another man on aggravated assault charges, police said today.

The 40-year-old victim from Middletown, Pa., works as a forklift operator at D-Way Corporation on Litho Road, Lt. Mark Ubry said.

The confrontation between the victim and Ricky Dones began about 6 p.m., Ubry said.

“He (the victim) was doing his jobs, moving product and metal around the factory, when Dones was continually walking behind the forklift,” Ubry said.

The two men, who had apparently never had a conflict with one another before, exchanged words. Then Dones allegedly picked up the “hard plastic brush broom” and used it to hit the victim on the left side of his face, Ubry said. The force of the hit knocked the victim out of the forklift. Dones then ran from the factory.

The victim declined medical treatment when paramedics asked and said he would see his own doctor instead.

Police tracked down Dones a short time later at the Sleep-E-Hollow Motel, where he had rented a room. Dones was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.

His bail was set at $25,000 full cash, and Dones was sent to the Mercer County Corrections Center when he could not post it.

Officer Sean Sexton investigated.
