One of the victims was shot in the groin and the other was shot in the abdomen. Corker took $700 from the men, prosecutors said.
The victims recognized Corker as a man they had seen in a Radio Shack store earlier that day, prosecutors have said. After watching a surveillance video from the store, they were able to identify Corker for police, prosecutors said.
Corker was already in custody from an April 17 arrest on charges he allegedly made false 911 calls. Corker allegedly dialed 911 twice and reported, separately, that shots were fired on the 600 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard and that a man was shot in the leg on West State Street, officials said.
When police found these reports were false, they were able to trace the calls to Corker, officials said. After finding an assault weapon on Corker, they arrested him, police said.
At Corker’s bail hearing, his attorney, Kathleen Redpath-Perez, said that even if the allegations were true, the attempted murder charge would be excessive. She said it should be charged as a robbery at the most.
In addition to the attempted murder charge, Corker was indicted on charges of robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and being a person not allowed to possess a weapon by a grand jury on Oct. 31.
Separately, he was indicted on Oct. 25 on charges of weapons possession and false public alarm for the incident involving the allegedly false 911 calls, said Casey DeBlasio, spokeswoman for the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
Darlene Henderson, a 53-year-old Trenton woman, was also indicted on robbery charges. She allegedly distracted the victims by attempting to get into their car as Corker allegedly shot and robbed them, DeBlasio said.
