Fred Scott had been charged earlier this year with tampering with a victim, after an innocent bystander hit in a shooting Scott allegedly orchestrated went to police.

TRENTON - A high-ranking Bloods gangster implicated in a gang war in Trenton's West Ward last year was shot multiple times and critically injured last night, the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office said.

Fred "Mr. Pooh" Scott, 28, was shot in front of a home on the 200 block of Highland Avenue around 11:55 p.m. He took at least one shot to the head, said Casey DeBlasio, a spokeswoman for the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office.

Scott was rushed to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition this morning.

Scott, a city resident, was involved in a series of back-and-forth shootings last year along Stuyvesant Avenue, of which Highland Avenue is a side street. Prosecutors said in court in February that Scott had fired 20 shots on the 800 block of Stuyvesant last Christmas Day, one of which struck a 29-year woman.

The woman, who was not Scott's target, assisted the police investigation but later received word Scott was intended to retaliate. She went to the prosecutor's office, sure she would not survive a weekend, according to court testimony.

Scott was later charged with tampering with the victim - a first-degree offense.

Last night's shooting is the first to be investigated by the new Mercer County Homicide Task Force, which combines detectives from Trenton police and the prosecutor's office. Trenton Detective Jason Snyder and county Detective Matt Norton are the lead investigators.
