TRENTON — Police are seeking a man whom they believed set a house on fire after an argument Thursday night, then returned to torch the same house again this morning.
No one was hurt in either blaze on the 500 block of Federal Street, and police have “one main suspect” who was not in custody late today, Lt. Mark Kieffer said.
The blazes are still under investigation by fire marshals, police and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities believe there may be a connection to a fight or disturbance that happened on Federal Street just before the first blaze. At 11:19 p.m. Thursday, firefighters were called out to the home after it was set on fire from the outside, Kieffer said. The blaze was quickly extinguished, and no major damage was evident to the front of the house.
Police officers guarded the scene while investigators performed their work, then left.
At 4:39 a.m. today, firefighters were called back out to the same home after it had been set on fire from the outside again, Kieffer said. This time, the blaze also spread to the home next door. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames and again no one was injured.
Police did not identify their suspect. Anyone with information on the crime can call police at (609) 989-4170, or the Confidential Tip Line at (609) 989-3663.
