Five Princeton University students will travel to the New Jersey State Prison in Trenton on Friday for the chess competition
TRENTON – The "Ivies vs. Inmates" chess challenge between Princeton University students and inmates at the maximum security New Jersey State Prison resumes this week.
Five highly-rated chess players from Princeton will visit the prison in Trenton on Friday morning for the showdown, which dates back more than a decade.
The students will play against multiple inmates simultaneously.
"In essence, different worlds are colliding," according to a N.J. Department of Corrections press release announcing the match. "Book smarts will meet street smarts, with the chess board as the common denominator."
