TRENTON — Two patrol officers who chased down a city man who had an active warrant recovered a semiautomatic handgun Thursday morning, police said today.
Officers Travis Maxwell and John Sangillo were on La Salle Avenue near West State Street shortly after 10:30 a.m. when they saw a man they knew was wanted on an active warrant, Lt. Mark Kieffer said.
When they pulled up to 23-year-old Shannon Bell Jr., Bell allegedly decided to take off on foot. He ran to nearby Lee Avenue, where he tried to climb a fence, but Maxwell was able to grab him, Kieffer said.
Bell struggled with the officer but was eventually subdued and placed under arrest.
On Bell’s person, Sangillo and Maxwell recovered a Hi-Point .380 semiautomatic handgun, according to Kieffer. Bell was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and obstructing the administration of law.
