At least two people were shot while standing near a memorial set up outside the illegal after-hours night club where a city man died and others were seriously injured yesterday morning, officials said.

TRENTON — At least two people were shot today while standing near a memorial set up outside the illegal after-hours night club on the 900 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard where a city man died and others were seriously injured yesterday morning, officials said.

"Minutes before 4 p.m., shots were fired into a group of approximately 20 people that were gathered near the memorial site of yesterday's homicide scene," said Casey DeBlasio, a spokeswoman for the county prosecutor's office. "At this point, the number and extent of the injuries are under investigation."

Police are investigating whether yesterday's shootings are related to today's incident, she said.

"They're investigating all avenues," DeBlasio said.

Charles White, 43, was shot in the head and pronounced dead just before 10 a.m. yesterday following a shooting at 919 Martin Luther King Blvd., DeBlasio said.

Several others were injured, including a 30-year-old Ewing man shot in the heart, lung and lower extremities who remains in critical condition at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton as of late this afternoon, DeBlasio said.

Police were called out to the establishment just before 5 a.m. and found four people shot, First Assistant Prosecutor Angelo Onofri said. All of the gunfire occurred inside the building, and no arrests have been made, DeBlasio said.

White “had ties” to the establishment, DeBlasio said, but it is unclear whether he lived in an apartment above the building.

“Investigators obtained and executed search warrants last night for the establishment, and the New Jersey State Police Crime Scene Unit processed and photographed the scene,” she said.

A 23-year-old city woman who was shot in the right shoulder and a 30-year-old Trenton man who was shot in the ankle are in stable condition at the hospital, DeBlasio said.

A 28-year-old city woman was severely burned by grease from a deep fryer she bumped into while attempting to escape the building and was taken to St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, Onofri said.

A 26-year-old city woman also suffered minor burns on her legs from the grease, Onofri said.

Mayor George Muschal said the Martin Luther King Boulevard club along with any others found to be operating illegally will be shut down.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information should call the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force at (609) 989-6406 or the Trenton police Confidential Tip Line at (609) 989-3663.
