EAST WINDSOR — An East Brunswick man was arrested today and charged with driving under the influence after being involved in a five-car crash on Route 130 in East Windsor, police said.

Daniel Gambale, 40, was traveling south on Route 130 toward the intersection of Town Center Road in a black Mercedes-Benz toward a row of vehicles stopped at a red light in the left-turn lane at about 2:40 p.m., police said in a news release.

Gambale’s car then sideswiped a silver Toyota Camry sitting in the turn lane before striking a beige Honda Accord, forcing it into the center median where it toppled a traffic signal fixture, police said. Gambale continued south in the turn lane, colliding with a silver Honda Odyssey before his car flipped over and came to a stop, police said. The Odyssey then collided with a white Audi A6, police said.

The drivers of the Accord and the Odyssey were both taken to local hospitals to receive treatment for head and neck pain, police said.

Gambale was arrested after a preliminary investigation and charged with driving under the influence, two counts of assault by auto, possession of narcotics and various motor vehicle offenses, police said. His bail has been set at $50,000.
