CHESTERFIELD – The man suspected of stabbing a man in his garage Tuesday remains at large as police continue to investigate the incident.
The victim was stabbed in his abdomen around 8:30 a.m. when he was confronted by an alleged burglar in his garage on the 100 block of Galestown Circle, police said. He had just dropped off his children at a bus stop.
The suspect, described as a white or Hispanic male, about 5-foot-10, 160 pounds with a beard, ran off on foot after the attack and has yet to be located. He was last seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt.
Police are processing evidence from the scene, submitting it to the State Police forensic lab for analysis and sorting through all of the information gathered from the victim, witnesses and residents, according to a statement posted on the police department’s website.
Police are working with other local, county and state law enforcement officials to determine the suspect’s identity and any other intelligence that is relevant to the case.
A composite sketch of the suspect is expected to be released Thursday, Chief Kyle Watson said.
Leigh Byron, superintendent of Chesterfield Elementary School, said there is heightened awareness at the school, but it’s an otherwise normal school day.
Tuesday, almost half of the 700 students who walk to school were picked up by family members, while the rest rode home on buses escorted by police and public works officials.
“Parents have always had the option to come pick up their children,” Byron said. “We’re not enforcing the same conditions as yesterday. … It’s up to the parents.”
