Michael Kopysciansky, 29, and Colin McHugh, 28, each will face additional bail of $30,000 with a 10 percent option after police recovered property from their car which is believed to be stolen from homes in Somerset County.
TRENTON — A pair of Ewing men who have been connected to several West Windsor break-ins are also facing charges in another robbery.
Michael Kopysciansky, 29, and Colin McHugh, 28, each will face additional bail of $30,000 with a 10 percent option after police recovered property from their car which is believed to be stolen from homes in Somerset County.
The two have been in jail since March 25, when they were reported by a West Windsor
resident who suspected them of breaking into a neighbor’s home. When police arrived, the suspects fled, resulting in a brief car chase before they parked and tried to run away. Both are being held in lieu of $50,000 bail in that case.
At the second bail hearing today, Mercer County Prosecutor Laura Kotarba said the pair took jewelry, a computer, several bottles of alcohol and other personal effects from the West Windsor home, all together worth “well over $500.” They are accused of forcing the back door open after trying to pry open a window, which shattered, she said. That damage was worth $1,500, and the pair were charged with criminal mischief, she said.
Kotarba said both men had a “lengthy” criminal history, with McHugh involved in 10 prior incidents and Kopysciansky with eight arrests in different states, including New York, Massachusetts and Tennessee.
Mercer County public defender Jumba Mugwanya said Kopysciansky has suffered from substance abuse issues and would be willing to seek treatment at the Salvation Army if permitted. He said there was also a “great dispute” as to McHugh’s role in the burglaries.
