Terrence Maddox, Samuel Vincent, Semier Vincent and Lawrence Sutphin are all charged with weapons offenses related to funeral shooting.

TRENTON — Police have arrested four men in the April 22 shooting that occurred during a funeral at Galilee Baptist Church in Trenton.

Newly released documents show that police have arrested Trenton residents Terrence Maddox, Samuel Vincent, Semier Vincent and Lawrence Sutphin and charged all with weapons offenses related to funeral shooting that left three city residents injured last month.

Hundreds of people were gathered at the church for the funeral of 19-year-old Cagney Roberts, who was shot to death April 9 in the area of Saint Joes and Girard avenues. Just as Rev. John Harris was about to begin his sermon in the church’s sanctuary, shots could be heard outside.

Maddox, 21, Samuel Vincent, 18, and Semier Vincent, 20, have all been charged with possessing a firearm for an unlawful purpose for allegedly firing in the direction of the church during Cagney’s funeral, arrest records show.

The three men have also all been charged with unlawful possession of a handgun and possessing defaced guns, because the serial numbers had been removed, the records show.

Samuel Vincent additionally was charged with possession of hollow-point bullets, records show.

He appeared in court Tuesday for a bail hearing. His defense attorney, Kathleen Redpath-Perez, said during the hearing that Vincent was a friend of Roberts and was at the funeral to pay his respects. She also said none of the bullets that ultimately hit the victims of the shooting came from the gun Vincent is accused of using.

Her client was arrested because he did not want to provide authorities with any information on the shooting, she said.

Mercer County Superior Court Judge Thomas Brown set bail for Vincent on the charges related to the church shooting at $110,250, cash or bond. He also faces $50,000 bail on an unrelated robbery charge.

Maddox was in court this morning for a bail hearing, the prosecutor’s office said. Mercer County Superior Court Judge Gerald Council set Maddox’s bail at $150,000 for the charges related to the shooting. Maddox, who was out on bail on an unrelated charge, had his bail revoked on that secondary case.

Maddox is accused of possessing a .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun, according to the records.

Semier Vincent is currently being held in lieu $100,000 bail.

Sutphin, 36, was charged with possessing a firearm while being a convicted felon, unlawful possession of a handgun, marijuana possession, and possessing a stolen firearm, a .40-caliber handgun from Falls Township, Pa., records show. He is currently being held in lieu of $200,000 bail.

The dates of future court appearances for the four defendants were not immediately available tonight.
