HAMILTON — Ralph Bencivengo Jr., a township resident who allegedly repeatedly abused a young girl over a decade ago, was arrested today and charged with multiple counts of child sex abuse, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Bencivengo, 51, is accused of abusing an unidentified victim on various occasions between Jan. 1995 and Nov. 1999, authorities said. He was charged with two counts of aggravated sex assault, one count of sexual assault, and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.

“The victim was under the age of 13 at the time of the offense, now an adult female,” said Casey DeBlasio, a spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office.

If he makes his $150,000 bail, Bencivengo has been ordered to have no unsupervised contact with children under 16 years old, DeBlasio said.

The investigation into the abuse began early last month, when a family member of the victim’s notified the prosecutor’s office, DeBlasio said. Prosecutor’s Detective Ahmad Mansur worked on the joint investigation with Hamilton Detective Curt Otter.

Bencivengo was arrested at Hamilton police headquarters and was being held there in lockup late yesterday. He could not be reached for comment last night.
