EWING — A township woman who is charged with killing her mother with a pickaxe on Halloween will make her first appearance in Superior Court in Mercer County next week.

Regina Wallace, 33, was arrested on Nov. 1 in Lancaster, Pa., where she sought treatment at a hospital after killing her mother Sharon Wallace, police said. Regina
Wallace is charged with murder and weapons offenses.

Wallace was arrested after Lancaster authorities told Ewing police she was babbling that there may have been a homicide at the Buttonwood Drive home she shared with her mother, police said.

Police forced entry into the home at around 7 p.m. on Nov. 1. They found the 53-year-old woman’s body on the couch in the living room and a pickaxe, which they identified as the murder weapon, police said. Police said they believe the homicide occurred Oct. 31.

Regina Wallace was taken into custody and charged while she was in Pennsylvania, said Casey DeBlasio, a spokeswoman for the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.

Wallace was recently returned to New Jersey and will make her first court appearance on Monday, when she will appear by video for a bail hearing, DeBlasio said.

There has been no court order for a mental health evaluation of Wallace, DeBlasio said. Her defense attorney could ask the judge to order an evaluation on Monday.

Wallace is being held in lieu of $1 million bail, police said.

Wallace has faced charges in Superior Court twice before. In 2010 she was charged with theft but the charges were dropped. In 2009 she was charged with resisting arrest but those charges were downgraded to a disorderly person’s offense and prosecuted in municipal court. The status of that charge is unknown.

Police said it appeared that no one else lived in the house with Regina and Sharon Wallace and no one else was present at the time of the killing.
