MANCHESTER - Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor's office arrested a man today for an unpaid traffic violation after interviewing him about the recent slaying of a 76-year-old Manchester resident.

Anthony "Tony" Verdicchio, 76, was found dead on Monday at Pine Acres Manor Mobile Home Park after his friends grew worried that he missed a meeting for coffee and called police.

The arrest today came while police were conducting interviews about Verdicchio's killing, said Al Della Fave, a spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

"There is no indication that he has any connection," Al Della Fave said. "There's been a whole slew of individuals interviewed - it doesn't mean they are all persons of interest. It just so happens that during the course of speaking to this individual that they checked his background and found he had a traffic warrant. It's nothing out of the ordinary."

Della Fave said he did not know the man's name, age or where he was from. He also didn't know if the man was released from custody or not.

Results from an autopsy for Verdicchio determined he suffered multiple blunt force traumas to the head and face, a release from the prosecutor's office said.

Manchester Township police are interested in speaking with anyone who saw Verdicchio between 10 a.m. Sunday and 5 p.m. Monday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police at (732) 657-6111.
