EWING - Police are advising residents to be on the lookout for black bears after one was spotted in the Mountainview section of the township today.

Possible bear sightings were reported near Perry Drive today, leading to the alert by township police via Twitter just after 2 p.m. No description of the bear was available. No injuries or property damage were reported.

State park rangers have been notified of the sighting and are sending manpower to the area.

Township police are urging residents not to approach any bears or feed them.

To report a nuisance black bear, police say residents can call the state Department of Environmental Protection's 24-hour, toll-free hotline at 1-877-WARN DEP (1-877-927-6337). Further information is available at http://njfishandwildlife.com/bearfacts.htm.
