Marquis Skillman has been charged in the death of 19-year-old Rayshawn Ransom last week.
TRENTON — A city man was arrested yesterday and charged with murder in connection with the death of 19-year-old Rayshawn Ransom, police said.
Marquis Skillman, 27, was arrested on Lee Avenue by a U.S. Marshals fugitive task force yesterday afternoon, Lt. Steve Varn said. Skillman was part of a group that had an argument with Ransom and others before the fatal shooting.
No one else has been charged in the June 13 killing.
“We believe that there were others involved,” said Varn, who heads Trenton's detective bureau.
Skillman is the twin brother of Maurice Skillman, who faces murder charges in the shooting death of Mercer County Corrections Officer Carl Batie at the Baldassari Regency in November.
Prosecutors said video footage from the Baldassari Regency shows the Skillman brothers arriving there earlier in the evening with Hykeem Tucker, who has also been charged with murder in Batie's killing. Marquis Skillman has not been charged in connection with Batie's death.
In Ransom's death, Marquis Skillman has been charged with murder, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. However, no gun has been recovered.
Varn did not say if police have identified additional suspects in Ransom's killing.
The argument on the 100 block of Passaic Street between the people Ransom was with and Skillman's group appeared to be over before the shooting occurred. But as Ransom sat in the passenger seat of a car, Skillman and at least one other gunman opened fire, police said.
Ransom was shot in the chest and head, and after being kept on life support at Capital Health Regional Medical Center, was declared dead over the weekend.
Bail for Marquis Skillman has been set at $1 million cash or bond.
