A 29-year-old employee of the center allegedly withdrew $618 from the victim's savings account, police said.
PLAINSBORO— A counselor at a brain injury recovery center was arrested last week after allegedly stealing more than $600 from a patient’s savings account.
Farhan A. Kayani, 29, of Hamilton would take an ATM card belonging to a patient at Bancroft Brain Injury Rehabilitation, keeping it overnight and using it to withdraw cash, police said. Kayani would allegedly return the card before it could be discovered missing.
Using this method in April and May, Kayani stole $618 from the savings account, police said. Police were called after the victim’s sister discovered the thefts.
Kayani was arrested at his home in Hamilton last Thursday. He was charged with burglary, credit card theft and fraudulent use of a credit card. He was being held on $20,000 bail at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Facility.
Authorities are keeping the investigation open to see if there was any further fraudulent use of the victim’s credit card, police said.
