The suspect would take the patient's credit card overnight and use it to withdraw cash, police said.
PLAINSBORO — A counselor at a township brain injury recovery center was arrested last week after allegedly stealing more than $600 from a patient’s savings account.
Farhan A. Kayani, a 29-year-old Hamilton resident, would take an ATM card belonging to a patient at the center overnight from the patient’s room and use it to withdraw cash. Kayani would return the card before the theft could be discovered, police said.
Using this method over the months of April and May, Kayani stole $618 from the savings account. Police were called on June 12 after the victim’s sister discovered the thefts, and Sgt. Joseph Jankowski began an investigation.
Police arrested Kayani at his Hamilton home last Thursday. He was charged with burglary, credit card theft, and fraudulent use of a credit card. He was being held on $20,000 bail at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Facility.
Authorities are keeping the investigation open in order to see whether there was any further fraudulent use of the victim’s credit card.
Anyone with information on the crime should call Plainsboro Police at (609) 799-2333.
