TRENTON — A 37-year-old city man who allegedly drove while intoxicated and caused a crash that killed his 22-year-old passenger early Monday has been charged by police.Darryl Boone, who was injured in the wreck, was released from the hospital late Monday and taken to Trenton Police headquarters. There he was charged with death by auto, assault by auto, leaving the scene of a fatal crash, leaving the scene of a crash resulting in serious bodily injury, and unlawful taking of a means of conveyance, Lt. Steve Varn said today.
Boone was behind the wheel around 2:10 a.m. Monday when his car veered off the roadway on the 100 block of Pennington Avenue and slammed into a utility pole, police said. Jamere Cullers, a city man who was riding in the backseat, was killed.
Another man injured in the crash was still recovering at the hospital, Varn said. That victim’s condition was unknown this evening.
Boone allegedly left the scene after the crash but was located by police. No charges have been filed against the other occupant of the car.
