The 53-year-old city resident was shot once and pronounced dead at the crime scene near Grand Street and Elm Street.
TRENTON - Police are seeking the one suspect who they believe gunned down a 53-year-old city man in South Trenton late Saturday night.
Adelso Buendia was shot once and pronounced dead at the scene, Lt. Steve Varn said.
"Motive is still under investigation," Varn said.
Police said Buendia was shot near the intersection of Grand Street and Elm Street around 9 p.m. No arrests have been made, and a full description of the suspect was not immediately available.
George Muschal, the city council president who represents the South Ward, said violence in the city has continued to worsen after last weekend's spate of homicides that left four dead, including a man shot during a robbery gone bloody on East State Street.
"It's more like escalation from the gang members shooting each other - you had the innocent bystander on State Street," Muschal said.
Saturday's homicide brings the year's killing total in the city to 29. The 28th homicide - the beating death of 47-year-old Herbert Cummings - was reported early Friday morning.
Also late Saturday, a man was seriously injured during a stabbing elsewhere in South Trenton that apparently occurred during a robbery of a deli.
The victim in that case was rushed to the hospital, where his injuries were at first believed to be life-threatening. However, surgery at Capital Health Regional Medical Center was successful, and police now believe the victim will survive his injuries, Varn said.
Anyone with information on these crimes should call police at (609) 989-4170, or the Confidential Tip Line at (609) 989-3663.
