Though four arrests have been made public so far, authorities continue to search for more individuals involved in the shooting that occurred during a funeral outside of a Trenton church.

TRENTON — Though four arrests have been made public so far, authorities continue to search for more individuals involved in the shooting that occurred during a funeral outside of a Trenton church last month.

Arrest records released this week show that city residents Terrence Maddox, Samuel Vincent, Semier Vincent and Lawrence Sutphin have all been taken into custody and charged with weapons offenses related to the April 22 shooting that left three city residents injured.

An estimated 1,200 people were gathered in and around the church during the funeral of 19-year-old Cagney Roberts, who was shot to death April 9 in the area of St. Joes and Girard avenues. Just as Rev. John Harris was about to begin his sermon in the church’s sanctuary, shots could be heard outside.

“The church is a safe haven,” Trenton Police Lt. Mark Kieffer said today. “So when that happened, it really shook the community.”

Sutphin was apprehended shortly after the shooting, Kieffer said, and an investigation led by Detective Christopher Kolodziej and Detective Sgt. Carmelo Rodriguez resulted in the arrest of Maddox and Samuel Vincent in the week following the incident, records show.

Semier Vincent was captured by the U.S. Marshals NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force on May 1 in a residence on the 1100 block of Hamilton Avenue, Kieffer said.

Police believe there were more individuals involved in the shooting, however, and would appreciate any tips from the community, Kieffer said.

“We’re not going to rest until we bring every last person that was involved to justice,” Kieffer said.

Police were not able to provide further detail about the alleged involvement of each of the four men in the shooting because the investigation is ongoing, he said.

Arrest records show that Maddox and both Vincents have been charged with possessing a firearm for an unlawful purpose for allegedly firing in the direction of the church during Cagney’s funeral.
Anyone with any information about the shooting is asked to call Kolodziej at (609) 989-5731 or the Confidential Tip Line at
