Willie Pace, 46, pleaded guilty Wednesday to first-degree robbery charges stemming from a 2012 incident where he hit the local woman until he was thwarted by police.

TRENTON — A city man will likely serve about a dozen years in prison for beating a woman in an attempt to rob her.

Willie Pace, 46, pleaded guilty Wednesday to first-degree robbery charges stemming from a 2012 incident where he hit the local woman until he was thwarted by police, who were alerted to the assault by two nearby homeless men.

The plea agreement will see Pace required to spend at least 10 years out of the 12-year sentence in prison, according to information from the Prosecutor’s Office.

According to reports at the time, the incident began when Pace asked for a dollar from the woman, who was leaving the train station to go to her home in the Mill Hill section of the city just before midnight on Aug. 8, 2012. When she refused, he dragged her into a wooded area near the Route 1 overpass and began “beating her about the face.”

Discovered bleeding from the mouth and disoriented, the victim was able to point out to police the direction in which Pace fled once police arrived on the scene. After they caught up to him, Pace fought back, but was eventually detained by the three officers.

At the time, he was charged with robbery, kidnapping, obstructing the administration of law, and resisting arrest.
